This time they didn’t give her Pedialyte. They gave her formula that is extra-broken down, to make it very easy to digest. Basically, it is processed to be partially digested, making it easier for her to process. Well, as before, she took a few feedings, but then stopped. They check her stomach each time before they feed her more to check if anything is left undigested. Same problem as before, they found too much undigested, and more of the green stuff, which I learned is bile. I always thought bile was in the stomach, but it is really in the upper intestine. Presence in the stomach shows that she is not processing things as she should.
All this happened Tuesday. They took her off the formula and let her rest for the rest of the day. This morning (Wednesday) they gave her more barium (a dye) followed by x-rays to see how she processed it. The initial x-rays looked just fine. They’ll check again in the morning, and if everything still looks ok, they’ll start feeding her again. I guess we just keep trying until one time, she finally takes it. Some kids recover slower than others, and she has had several things happen, each of which delay recovery. We’ll know in the morning if she can be fed again, and then each 3 hours we find out if she is digesting and can take more food, or if there is still a problem.
While watching the season finale of Lost tonight, Amy and I were both very tense. At a very suspenseful part of the show we heard a loud noise—not on the TV but upstairs. It made us jump more than it should have, and then we both realized what it was… Dallin hitting the floor. We raced upstairs, since this is the first time he’s ever fallen out of bed. He was crying when I got to him. Yes, that’s right, I can outrun a lady who had a baby less than 6 weeks ago. Anyway, he was half under the bed, I don’t know how. He had slipped through a crack between his bed and changing table, getting around the guard we have up. The best part was, he only fussed a little, and he stayed asleep! I held him for about a minute, put him back down, and he was fast asleep. Goofy kid…
