Kylie had surgery yesterday (Friday), as expected. It was supposed to be in the afternoon, but then we were told it would be first thing in the morning. We showed up, ready for her to go at 8:00 am. They didn’t take her until 1:45 pm.
They did a few things in the surgery. They did a fundoplication (http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/Fundoplication-surgery-for-gastroesophageal-reflux-disease-GERD), which stops her reflux. This means whatever goes into her stomach, now stays there and doesn’t come back up. They also inserted the g-tube, which she will be fed through for the next several weeks at least. They also had to move her intestines around to place them in the proper location, which led to them removing her appendix. And all that in under 3 hours!
She came back on a ventilator, which she’ll be on for a day or so until she is alert and recovered enough that breathing isn’t a worry. She is still super groggy, but hopefully she’ll recover quickly and come home in the coming week. Cross your fingers!
