Alright, I finally made my way over to a computer and thought I would update the masses. :) Emily and Dallin just left, they came up for a visit and after speaking to a child life specialist and hearing all about what Kylie would look like they got to head back and see her for a few minutes. We did get ushered out fairly quickly because Kylie's blood pressure has been higher than they want, and they didn't want her to get over stimulated. Which means...she is awake now! Yea! She even smiled at Emily, something she hasn't done for me yet. She woke up about 12:30pm today after about 2-3 hours of having all of her pain medication shut off. I couldn't believe that they would cut off all the pain meds that quickly, but apparently that's what they do. So, she woke up and started moving around a bit and soon after they pulled the breathing tube, which I have been very anxious to see out. It took her 9 days when she had her surgery before (at 2 weeks old) and I know I shouldn't, but I keep comparing this surgery to the last one. She had a really hard time with that surgery. Anyway, it's good. She has just a little bit of oxygen in her nose now, which drives her crazy!! She keeps trying to pull it off the best she can. So, overall she is doing pretty well, they are closely monitoring her heart. There have been some irregularities, but some of that is to be expected from the trauma of the surgery. It is just soo very good to see her awake, she'll even occasionally pick up a toy and play for a minute.
So, what does all this mean...she is doing well. She is still in the ICU and so we will be in the Ronald McDonald house again tonight, there are many other steps that need to happen before she is moved to intermediate care, but for only 24 hours after surgery she is doing well. I am of course exhausted and found myself at her bedside last night at 4:45am, because I couldn't sleep. I did eventually head back to bed, but I just really need my little girl to come home.
Again, thank you for all the prayers and support, they really seem to be working for her good right now. Things really get put in perspective here too. I am consumed with our family and needs and this baby. However, today, I saw a family whose daughter was declared brain dead this afternoon and she will have her machines turned off tonight. With all that we have gone through, I am no where near understanding that kind of pain.
