Look Mom No Hands...(well wheels)

Yesterday our cute little 5 year-old accomplished a goal she set about a year ago when she noticed a kid about her age riding a bike. "Mom," she said "look her bike only has two wheels!" Then came the explanation and with the move and life we really didn't get much practice in with the bikes this summer. However, the last few weeks we have all been going on bike rides more often and we set a goal that by my birthday we would take off the training wheels. Well, my birthday was last Monday and we really didn't ride bikes until Saturday, so yesterday was the big day. We went on a family bike with the younger two in the bike trailer and Emily got a good warm-up and then we came home and David went to work (and got quite the work-out)

The first lesson: Now in order to ride a two-wheeler David thought a demonstration would be best...

Next we had some practice runs with a few bumps and falls. (Nothing Princess helmets, elbow pads, knee pads and long pants and shirts can't take care of--man kids these days sure are spoiled, we got banged up in our day)

And finally with really only about an hour of practice our little girl can go. Starting and stopping is still a little struggle, but I am definitely the proud mama! :)

I love the video of David "showing" Emily how to ride her bike. Very funny and so David like. I loved it. Have fun riding your bike Emily!

Way to go Emily! It looks like David got quite the workout with demonstrating and running alongside. How fun! :)

Is Princess Dave for hire. We have a princess that needs that demo. Good job Emily!

That's amazing! Channing saw the video and now she wants to try the "no trainnig wheels" approach.

Logan tried it a few weeks ago, and my neighbor was trying to help her, and she would do it for her, but then when I tried- NOOOOOOOOO. I wasn't doing it right and she balled, and the neighbor said she has taught 5-6 kids (so I guess I'm just chop suey or however you spell it!)
Way to go Emily! Dave did look hilarious riding Emily's bike!
