Well, we met with the kidney specialist this morning. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any good news. We still won’t know for quite a while exactly what is going on. There are problems that will just need time to see how they play out. At the moment, there is no urgent, immediate problem that needs to be resolved. She will be monitored weekly to see when and if something needs to be done. The best news is, nothing that would prevent her from coming home.
The biggest immediate problem is still Kylie’s inability to suck. She can’t nurse, she can’t take a bottle, nothing. It’s almost like she doesn’t have the natural sucking reflex that all babies are born with. We have appointments with occupational therapists, who will try and help.
To reiterate what I wrote a few days ago, her heart is fine for now. Amy reminded me how the cardiologist was so amazed at Kylie’s progress. The fact that she still has good circulation in her legs is shocking to the cardiologist. Remember, we were initially told to expect surgery within the first week of her life. Amy and I credit the many hundreds of prayers being offered in Kylie’s behalf. Miracles do still happen, you know.
Here is a picture of Kylie with her first doll, chosen by big sister Emily:
I sat her down and gave her a good talking to about modesty. I explained that young ladies can not go around without a shirt on. Thankfully, she listened.
The tube in her nose is how she eats, for now. Keep praying that she'll be able to suck soon so we can get rid of that thing! Her coloring is getting much better, though I am not sure you can tell from the few pictures I've posted.
