To catch everyone up to speed, here is what has happened so far. Kylie Suzanne was born at 9:49 AM on Friday April13th. She was immediately attended to by a variety of specialists at Memorial Herman Neonatal ICU. Since we knew ahead of time of some of the challenges she would face, we had all the proper folks on hand when Amy was induced. Thankfully, she did fine during labor (as did Amy), so a C-section was not necessary. The doctors led us to believe it was a very significant possibility, so that was a huge relief.
Kylie underwent a variety of tests her first day--an ultrasound of her brain, kidneys, heart and other organs. Prenatal ultrasounds had found problems with her heart and right kidney, which were confirmed after birth. We are still waiting to find out exactly what the problems are and what needs to be done, so I'll write more later about them as we learn more. Luckily, her brain and other organs did not show any problems.
She was put on oxygen for about a day, but now she is breathing fine on her own. She is not eating yet. She has an IV giving her fluids and a tube draining her stomach. I'm still not quite sure why, even though they've explained it a dozen times... She has several other wires, taking her temperature, measuring heart and respiration rates, oxygen content, and more. At least she has a tiny pink bow on her head now, thanks to some kind nurse.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) we should get results of the latest echo (heart ultrasound). The chromosome test results should also be in, and we'll go over them with the genetic counselors. For those of you who know my sister Jennifer, the assumption is that Kylie has problems similar to hers. More details on that later, assuming confirmation of this.

In a nutshell, Kylie will be in the hospital for at least two weeks, possibly longer if she needs any surgeries or has other problems. For now, she is stable and handling things fairly well. Amy and I sincerely appreciate all the prayers in our behalf. Thank you to all of you, please know of our deep gratitude in this challenging time. I will continue to post updates periodically as there is news to share.
