Camden Nathan Pomeroy
arrived on Thursday, July 26th at 2:27pm.
He weighed in at 8lb 11oz and was 22 inches long.
He's big!!
We went to the hospital that morning at the crazy hour of 4am. I was one day past my due date and I was completely sick of being pregnant. I had really really wanted to go into labor on my own, but after 5 kids I'm not sure why I thought it would work this time. So, I was induced. The thought was that they would start the pitocin around 5 am and Dr. McDonald would come and break my water around 7 and we would see baby around 9. HA!
Things never work out the way we plan. My doctor called the hospital at 7 to make sure that I was there and all was well before she came over. Some new secretary at the hospital told her I wasn't there---awesome. So, around 9 they gave me my epidural. I was a 3.5 and barely progressing. I never do anything without my water being broken. I started getting really ticked and bored and started complaining to the nurse about my doctor and so at 10 she finally called Dr. McDonald's office. Dr.M immediately showed up and was really ticked at the hospital staff. However, at least this go around I did decide to do an epidural. I've had only had one and that was with Kylie and it didn't go well. This time, I was just so tired and didn't have it in me to push through. (Typically, I get a pain killer the last 45 minutes or so). So, as bored as I was, I wasn't feeling a darn thing which was awesome. It was really weird to not know if I was contracting or not. I never pushed the little button to up the medicine. It was great. They kept assuring me that yes I was contracting and I sat straight up to help him move down, because he wasn't. At around 2pm my doctor called back to check on my progress. My nurse who is also a midwife came in and I had started to feel some of the normal pressures of delivery time, but they were so faint from what I was used to that I hadn't reported them. Anyway, she had me push him down and Dr.M came quick. Now as much as I didn't feel the contractions--I FELT the pushing. This was a big kid and I had to push way more than normal, but he is here and we are so so so so so grateful!!!!!We left the hospital on Friday night and I won't lie it's been rough since we got home. In case any of you are reading this and have less than 5 kids, even with both parents home, 5 kids is a LOT! But we are doing the best we can and adjusting as best as we can. Nursing is not going well. He has some latching issues so I have some major major pain issues. The pediatrician talked me through some things at his check up yesterday. I am trying, but honestly miserable. However, the first couple of weeks postpartum are always rough--we're 5 days into it and hopefully nursing will right itself soon and I can feel better.
At his check up all was well. He has dropped down to 8lb 6oz, not too bad and I'm sure he'll be right where he was and beyond very soon. He is happy and really good so far. The other kiddos are enchanted with him, Kylie is curious, David and I are tired, but we're here, our family is complete and that is a good feeling.
