Emily has a very dear friend named Katelyn. She loves her. She is her BFF all the way. They are two weeks apart in age and we are in the same ward. We (the moms) have put these two girls together since they were three months old and now they truly love each other. In Kindergarten they were even blessed to be in the same class.
There are also two other little girls that they are friends with at Church that are in their grade at school (Amber and Bekah). Last year in first grade the four girls were spread between four classes. They all survived.
This year the letters with teacher assignments came in the mail on Tuesday. We get our mail a little later than some other neighborhoods and we already knew that Kate and Amber had the same teacher--Mrs. Flores
We went and got the mail. Emily tore open her letter. She looked up at me with the most devastating look on her face and said, "I have Ms. Horrible!!" What?! I looked. She has Ms. Horbal. What a terrible last name for a teacher. We came home and called the last little girl from Church. She too has Mrs. Flores. Emily cried and sobbed and cried. She called Kate and cried.
Tuesday night this Mama bear went to bed sobbing for my sad little girl. Wednesday morning while I was on my morning walk, David emailed her first grade teachers. Later that day he contacted the principal. That late afternoon we were told, "NO WAY!!"
So, tonight, she walks into a classroom without her friends to meet her teacher, Mrs. Horrible.
The irony is, most likely she will have a great year and make tons of new friends and still keep up with the old ones at recess.
You just hate to see them cry...

Oh, I teared up reading this. I'm sure Emily will have a fabulous year, but what a hard pill to swallow. Here's wishing her the best! :)
